Students empowered to take a stand against injustice on Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day

64 years ago today, Ruby Bridges became the first Black student to attend an all white school. Many of us have parents or grandparents who are older than 64 — so when you think about, it wasn't really that long ago.

Today on FOX4 at noon, we revisit that monumental moment in our country's history and look at how the Walk to School Movement empowers children to take a stand against injustice.

Remix: Although other shows covered this story, I gave it a fresh perspective in several ways:

  • anchor background at the desk

  • finding images for the video that weren't used in other stories

  • expounding on the history of what happened on Bridges' first day attending a desegregated school

  • including sound from Ruby Bridges

  • informing parents on resources available on Ruby Bridges' website
